Gout or known as gout is joint pain because gout in the blood has accumulated around the joints and formed crystals. There is no exact cause of gout, but if your uric acid level is high, you should avoid some of the following foods.
In the body there is a substance called purine. This substance is formed naturally. In addition, purines can also be found in some foods. When it needs to break down purines, the body produces uric acid to do this. The more levels of purines that must be broken down, the more levels of uric acid produced by the body.
Some types of foods that need to be limited, even avoided to prevent uric acid levels from rising, include:
Sea food
Although there are various benefits of sea fish, but you should avoid consumption of sea fish if your uric acid levels are high. Examples are sardines and anchovies. Also avoid seafood like clams. Because, the fish mentioned contain high purines. If you want to eat fish, choose salmon, with purine levels not as high as other sea fish or other seafood such as shrimp, crab, lobster, and oysters. However, still limit the portions so they are not consumed excessively.
Red meat
Red meat, such as beef and lamb, is classified as a food that causes high uric acid because it contains high purines. So that the need for protein is still fulfilled and remains protected from excessive uric acid levels, choose white meat like chicken meat. Or you can replace it with vegetable protein sources, such as soybeans from tempeh and tofu.
Turkey and goose meat
Turkey and goose meat are among the most delicious types of meat ever. However, if the level of uric acid in your blood is fairly high, it is recommended to avoid consumption of these two meats. Because the levels of purines from both meats are higher than other white meats.
Offal
Offal is among the foods that cause high uric acid which really should be avoided, especially if your uric acid levels are above normal, because the liver, brain, kidneys, or other animal innards contain very high purines.
Sweet drinks
Do you like consuming sugary drinks like soda, fruit-flavored drinks, or bottled drinks? This sweet drink can increase uric acid levels in the blood. Therefore, the sweet taste of fructose sugar stimulates the production of more uric acid. Fructose can also be found naturally in fruits such as apples, pears, grapes and dates. Research shows, men who consume large amounts of fructose at higher risk of gout. That also applies to women who often consume sweet drinks.
Dairy products
Beware also various types of foods from dairy products, such as ice cream, milk, cheese, or yogurt. Research shows, food from dairy products can increase uric acid levels. If you still want to consume it, choose dairy products from low fat types. Even better if you choose the truly fat free.
Green vegetable
No need to be surprised when it is advisable to avoid consuming green vegetables. Because some types of green vegetables such as spinach, peas, and asparagus contain high purines. Other vegetables that are also high in purines are cauliflower and mushrooms. However, these vegetables do not increase blood uric acid levels as bad as if you eat red meat. So, occasionally you can still eat these vegetables in limited portions.
